Relja Eskić (playing for TK Privilege, born in 2001) won Belgrade Tennis Association’s U-14 Masters, held at ТK Đukić on Bežanijska kosa ten days ago. This was a good reason for us to talk with this talented player:
What are your impressions after winning the Belgrade Tennis Association’s U-14 Masters?
I am happy. This is a major success for me.
Which achievements would you single out as the most important ones in your career so far?
I’ve had many good results so far, in 2013 I won 13 cups in total (for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place).
But the achievement I am perhaps most fond of is winning Belgrade U-12 masters in 2013, and now, a year later, I won the same tournament in the U-14 category.
When did you start practicing tennis and why did you choose an individual sport?
I have been practicing tennis since I was 7. I chose tennis because it is creative, and I enjoy playing it. I also like the fact that I can influence the outcome of a match, which is typical for individual sports.
Could you tell us more about your tennis club, your coach and your teammates?
I practice at TК Privilege, which is in one of the most beautiful parts of Belgrade, in Košutnjak. My coach, from the very beginning, has been Nikola Jovanović,and my conditioning coach is professor Zoran Pajić, PhD. All my teammates are great: we do sparings and have nice time together. Among them, there are also those who practice purely for recreational purposes, and I sometimes do sparing with them as well.
Do you have any special preparations before playing in tournaments?
No, not for the time being. The only thing I do is a good warm-up before match.
What do you consider to be your biggest strength in tennis, and what would you change or improve in your game?
I believe that my biggest strength is my competitiveness, and my weakness is my impatience.
What would be your message to youngsters who would like to try themselves in this sport?
If they want to be good at this sport, they have to practice hard.
